I work for a health clinic and we service people from all over the world and last year I decided to start a World AIDS DAY event by doing a candlelight vigil. It was a success so this year will be my 2nd annual and am hoping it will be even better.

The borough where I live is very high with HIV/AIDS and I took it upon myself to reach out to my people by doing outreach in churches, schools, subways, parties, barber shops, beauty parlour, nail saloons and anywhere they will listen.

Coming from the Caribbean the STIGMA bad DISCRIMINATION is so bad that i choose to put my face in the public to help my people to get away from this.

So, i promise to have this event every year.

Thanks for letting us know about your events. We'd be really keen to hear how your arrangements are going for this year and please if you can send us some photo's after the event.

Its great to hear what other people are doing so we can all learn from each other and share some success stories.

How many people are you hoping to reach through your candlelight vigil and what challenges have you encountered?

Thanks for responding.

The arrangement is coming along fine. I founf a place opposite the clinic to hold the event this year because the space we used last year is under construction to extend the clinic.

There are different groups involved especially teens. We are hoping to meet more people through this event. So far i havn't come accross any challenges, everyone is very cooperative.

I am hoping to get an artist to come and sing for us one of their HIV/AIDS song.

This link will take you to last year's event and some pictures. http://uscaribbeantwinning.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=page.viewPage&pageID=472

Wow, lots of stuff there. You're busy! Very cool.
Actually, I just realised that here I am working on World AIDS Day on a global scale and that I've never taken the time to go visit my own city hall to see what they're doing. I know who I'm calling today :D

Hi,
We as youths 've orgarnised for a Home Zone after a masive match. We want to erect this shelter in the most circulated street by street kids, and then we will conduct life skills training along with vast info via brochures, posters and one on one discussions on hiv/aids,abstinence and behaviour change for the youths.

What kind of shelter? Like more of a shack, a bus, a tent? I'm trying to picture it. I love the idea though. Hey Edwin, what do you think, we set one up in Amsterdam?

Hey godfrey,
This really is good idea - its simple and easy. This would be a good idea for Amsterdam - I'm going to send it round to some youth groups here to see if they are interested!

Dear nagarajan,

Thanks so much for your post. We love that fact that people are sharing their ideas with each other around WAD. Can I suggest you add your event to the WAC events listing for 2005 so others may see what your doing? If you go to: http://www.worldaidscampaign.info/index.php/wac/wac/world_aids_day/wad_2005_events
You will be able to add your event.

Thanks so much and all the best for World AIDS Day!
